Would you like to increase your Santa income by thousands of dollars without raising your fees or increasing the number of bookings? You can do it by adding value to your clients, value in the form of convenience for those who book you, and most importantly, by enhancing the experience of the children and adults who see you as Santa.
Whether it’s a corporate event, portrait studio sessions, a daycare visit, or even a home visit or party, many of the clients who book you also need a gift for Santa to give to each child. If they are going to spend money on those gifts doesn’t it make sense to spend that money with you?
People want something unique and special for Santa to give to the children. They also want the children to have a magical and memorable experience when they see Santa. Nice List Medals and Certificates are the perfect answer, and they are a wonderful alternative to candy or a cheap novelty toy that ends up lost or tossed. Nice List Medals and Certificates will be kept as treasured childhood Christmas keepsakes. Being remembered is the key to repeat bookings and isn’t that the lifeblood of our business?
The certificates are printed in full color on heavy 100lb white card stock. I really enjoy writing the names and year on the certificates. It makes me feel like the real Santa! The certificates also have a custom gold foil embossed seal that says “Santa’s Workshop, The North Pole” and a big “SC” monogram. The thick, high quality card stock, hand calligraphy and gold embossed seal ensure the certificates will be treasured as keepsakes and not lost or thrown away like a plain piece of paper. This enhances and extends the memory of their Santa experience with you. That’s what we are looking for as Santa Claus actors, isn’t it?
The medals are a big 2.25 inch diameter with a shiny gold rim on an extra wide red and green striped neck ribbon. Both the front and the back feature full color graphics which match the certificate. Children will proudly wear their “Magic Santa Medal” that says “I’m on Santa’s Nice List.”
They really are "magic medals” because they help children remember to be good. The back of the medal says “Hang this magic medal on your doorknob at bedtime. It will help you remember to be good. Your Friend, Santa." I always read the back when I put the medal around the child’s neck. The last thing I ask them is “Do you remember where to hang your medal tonight at bedtime?” And they answer “On my doorknob!” Then I say “That’s right! It’s magic, because it will help you remember to be good.” I usually wink at the parents after saying this and they love it!
I have encountered parents several months after Christmas who told me their child still had the medal hanging on the bedroom doorknob. One mother told me she periodically refers to the medal to encourage her son to be good. She said it’s particularly helpful in getting him to clean up his room! That’s really the main concept behind the medals: they are an ongoing encouragement for good behavior and this makes the parents love the medals as much as the children.
When I book an event I always ask the client if they plan for Santa to give an item to each child and how much are they budgeting per child for that. It’s not unusual for them to budget $10 or more per child. When I show them the Nice List Medals and Certificates they are always impressed and excited. They love the idea of giving high quality, personalized keepsakes and rewarding the children for being on Santa’s Nice List. And they really love the “magic” of encouraging good behavior by hanging the medal on the doorknob. They also love the convenience of letting me take care of the details and logistics of the gifts. They are typically busy with many aspects of planning their event and they appreciate having one less thing to deal with.
I have event clients who regularly purchase between 50 and 100 and more. I have one large corporate client who has purchased more than 185 two years in a row! You can imagine how many thousands of additional dollars have been added to my Santa income from including these items in my bookings. Remember, if your client is going to spend money on a gift for each child then why not have that extra money come to you?
I include the medals and certificates in my home visit package as well. They are not offered as an optional add-on and this is very important so I’ll repeat it: They are not offered as an optional add-on. I do not sell them to people. I include them as a give-away premium. My typical home visit fees are calculated as a base rate per family plus $10 per child. The purpose of my home visits is a “Nice List Check-Up” and I perform a little ceremony when I present the medals and certificates. Each child receives personal recognition and the kids and parents love it!
Including the medals and certificates in my home visit package allows me to be compensated for each child. This is important because more children require more time and effort. I believe I should be compensated for that, and you should too. People have no problem with the per child charges added to the base. It really makes sense.
Ask yourself: How many children did you give a self-provided or client-provided gift last season? 100? 500? 1000? or more? Can you see the tremendous potential for a huge increase in your income? I have done it and so can you. We Santas love to “invest” hundreds and even thousands in suits and accessories like buckles, boots and bling. But an investment like this will generate an actual measurable increase in your Santa income.
